Plug-in hybrids under the magnifying glass

As a recent study by the Fraunhofer Institute analyzes, only a few PHEVs are driven in pure electric mode.
AUDIO MOBIL CEO Thomas Stottan explains why this might be the case:

"I personally operate my hybrid vehicle with an inductive charging station and sometimes deliberately forget to refuel. When parking in my own area, the range is automatically "topped up" without any additional action and the vehicle is also air-conditioned. This gives me greater convenience and I don't actually have any range problems in daily use.

If you want to avoid clever mobility, standardize a charging plug, for example, and make it mandatory. I am not surprised that PHEVs are not used more often for private and business purposes. After all, this would involve additional expense. However, if these vehicles were charged inductively and automatically, the statistics would be completely different.

That's why I don't think range is an issue. The real problem lies in the charging process and the central issue of "usability". All future drive and associated energy storage concepts will be determined by practicable usability. If the vehicle is easy to use, the issue of range becomes less important. Simplifying the operation and use of a networked vehicle should be the basic prerequisite for alternative drive concepts."

This is one of the core competencies of AUDIO MOBIL Elektronik GmbH, which deals with usability as such, but also with its validation.
